Driver charged after hitting officer during traffic stop

Police say a Suffolk County officer directing traffic was hit by a speeding car Tuesday.

According to police, Theresa Finnin-Hunt, of Sea Cliff, struck Officer Dennis Hendrickson as he stood on the shoulder of the LIE in Hauppauge.

Police say the officer was helping with traffic control west of Exit 56 Tuesday afternoon.

Finnin-Hunt ignored the officer's signal to slow down and hit his right arm, police say.

Finnin-Hunt will be charged with DWI and reckless endangerment.

Officer Hendrickson was treated for his injuries.
