Lottery held for affordable rental homes in Coram
A lottery for new and affordable housing in Coram was held Thursday.
Over 1,000 people applied for the rental apartments at Wincoram Commons off Route 112. The Community Development Corporation of Long Island helped build the 176 affordable apartments in a small community setting. The complex is being built on the site of the old United Artists theater.
The apartments are priced at about 30 percent below market value.
Officials say that with the overwhelming number of applicants for the units, they believe Wincoram Commons could be a model for future development on Long Island.
Applications for the apartments are still being accepted.
