Police: Motorcyclist killed after hitting pothole

Police say a pothole in a road may have cost a Riverhead man his life.

According to police, David DeCarle, 37, was riding his motorcycle on Reeves Avenue yesterday afternoon when the incident happened.

Police say it appears DeCarle was headed east when he hit the pothole and lost control of his bike. A passing driver called 911.

DeCarle was rushed to the hospital, but later died of his injuries.

DeCarle was a member of a local motorcycle club in Riverhead. Members say they feel like they lost a member of their family.

Riverhead police say they are still investigating the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call them at 631-727-4500.
