Sloan Kettering eyes space for facility near Coliseum
Memorial Sloan Kettering has plans to open a new multimillion-dollar facility near the Nassau Coliseum.
Sloan Kettering confirmed its plan to spend $140 million to build the 105,000-square-foot facility. Patients would be able to get chemo, radiation and other treatments at the cancer center.
It already has satellite facilities in Commack and Rockville Centre.
"We do have great medical care on Long Island, but it's wonderful to have another option," said Hillary Rutter, the executive director of Adelphi Breast Cancer Hotline.
Sloan Kettering says the new location will hopefully be open in 2018 - when it's lease in Rockville Centre is up. The Commack center will remain open.
The proposal needs to be approved by county lawmakers.
