A former Stony Brook University student is filing a lawsuit against the school over the way she says it handled her sexual assault case.
Sarah Tubbs tells News 12 that she was sexually assaulted by a fellow student at a party in January 2014.
She says she went to campus police two days after the incident to report it, but her attorney says detectives said Tubbs didn't have a enough of a case to file criminal charges.
Tubbs says she turned to a campus disciplinary hearing where she had to be questioned by her alleged attacker.
The university ruled against Tubbs and denied her appeal. She's now suing in federal court, demanding the university change its grievance procedures for sexual assault victims.
A Stony Brook University spokesperson told News 12 that the university was unable to comment on the litigation due to federal privacy laws.
