Police say a teenager was killed and four other people were hurt in a two-car crash on the Northern State Parkway Friday night.
The collision happened shortly after 11 p.m. between exits 30 and 31 within the town of Hempstead.
State police say a Chevrolet Malibu and a BMW were both traveling eastbound when they collided.
The driver of the BMW lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree. The front-seat passenger, identified as 17-year-old Justin McClyment, of Rosedale, Queens, was killed.
The driver and a rear-seat passenger in the BMW were hospitalized with serious injuries.
State police say that after the collision, the Chevrolet struck the center median and entered the westbound lanes of the highway before coming to rest on its roof. Two occupants inside the vehicle were hospitalized with minor injuries.
Police say the investigation into the crash is continuing. Anyone with information is asked to call the State Police in Farmingdale at 631-756-3300.
