A Staten Island man is behind bars after smashing his Mercedes Benz into several other cars in Midwood Tuesday.
Police tell News 12, 31-year-old Joseph Marino was behind the wheel of a white Mercedes Benz when it crashed around 8:15 p.m. on East 28 Street between Avenues J and K.
Police say Marino’s blood alcohol content level was more than two times over the limit.
Police say he smashed into a 2017 gray Honda Suburban and then several parked cars, before his vehicle flipped over. Police tell News 12 they could smell alcohol on his breath when they arrived on scene and he was immediately taken into custody. Official say Marino’s blood alcohol content was at .212.
Investigators say they found a cannabis pen after searching his vehicle.
Marino is now facing a slew of charges including DWI, operating a motor vehicle without insurance and criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Police tell News 12 he was taken to the hospital to be checked out, but luckily no one else was hurt.
Mark Silber tell News 12 his car was one of the vehicles totaled in the crash.
"Everyone heard the crash. It was a sonic boom we came running out the car was flipped over obviously as we've seen on the news he was a DWI driver. Thank god nobody got hurt he didn't hurt anyone he himself wasn't hurt it could've been a lot worse," says Mark Silber.
