The Bridgeport mayoral election will go on as scheduled.

The Connecticut Supreme Court has decided people will vote in the Bridgeport mayoral race Tuesday.

The Supreme Court did not rule whether to hold a new Democratic primary, so Tuesday's results may not be the final decision. Although a group called Bridgeport Generation Now said they do not expect a new election to happen.

"It's not about today, it's not about the trial, it's always been about the collective power of the voter and that should be the focus going forward," said plaintiff Vanessa Liles.

The ruling means Mayor Joe Ganim will keep his spot on the ballot.

A Bridgeport judge rejected an attempt to delay the election for mayor last week. But Bridgeport Generation Now filed an emergency appeal with the Connecticut Supreme Court.

The absentee ballots were the focus of a monthlong trial in Bridgeport. Nearly a dozen voters testified that they had cast absentee ballots even though they didn't qualify for them and others testified that someone else signed their ballot applications.
