State police say two people were killed in a crash on the Wantagh State Parkway early Monday morning, and investigators believe speed was a factor.
It happened around 3:30 a.m. Troopers say they responded to a report of an overturned vehicle on the northbound side of the parkway at the eastbound exit ramp for the Northern State Parkway.
There, police say they found a 2000 Honda Accord that had overturned in the woods.
The driver and sole passenger were dead, police say.
Police say a preliminary investigation shows that the Honda exited the road at a high rate of speed, hit a guard rail and went airborne before striking a light pole and a large tree.
Police have not released any information about the victims.
State police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call State Police Troop L Headquarters at 631-756-3300.
