Many Town of Hempstead pools and beaches are extending their hours ahead of this weekend’s heat wave.

News 12 Erin’s Colton visited the Newbridge Road Pool in Bellmore Friday morning, where the aquatic director says that 565 lifeguards are on hand and ready to keep area beaches and pools safe.

The town’s 23 pools and five miles of beaches will likely see some of the most packed days yet this summer.

A lifeguard at the Newbridge Road Pool in Bellmore reminds those visiting state parks to look out for signs of heat exhaustion, including vomiting, dizziness, fatigue, confusion and pale skin.

He says that if someone is experiencing these symptoms, EMS should be called. The individual should be removed from of the heat and given fluids. Icepacks should be applied to the individual’s neck and forehead to reduce his or her body temperature.

Most Town of Hempstead pools will be open until at least 7 p.m., with some open until 10 p.m. Extended beach hours are until 7 p.m.
