Gov. Andrew Cuomo was in Dix Hills Tuesday to announce preparations for Jose as Suffolk County remains under a tropical storm watch.

"Our M.O. has been to prepare for the worst and hope for the best," said the governor. "We have deployed equipment from all across the state…that might be relevant to the weather patterns we're seeing here."

That equipment includes military vehicles, generators and Zodiac boats.

Kevin Wisely, the director of the New York State Office of Emergency Management, says the state has deployed 100 members of the New York National Guard, the Urban Search and Rescue Team and various officials from the Division of Homeland Security & Emergency Services. 

County officials said the outer beaches in Suffolk are closed, including Smith's Point, Cupsogue, Shinnecock East and Montauk. 

The last boat to leave for Fire Island Tuesday was at 4 p.m.

The National Weather Service downgraded Jose to a tropical storm with top winds speeds of about 70 mph late Tuesday night.
