Stamford police are cracking down on abandoned cars.

Some residents have been complaining about the lack of available parking citywide. They say part of the issue is that some people leave their cars parked in the same spot for days, weeks or even months.

Police say they have an officer dedicated to enforcing parking laws regarding how long a car can stay on the street. They say a car cannot be on a city street for more than 120 hours, or five days.

Over the past two days, police say they've placed stickers on 65 abandoned cars. Some owners have tried to remove the stickers, leaving behind glue and parts of the stickers.

Anyone who leaves a car on the street for more than five days will be ticketed. If the car remains, it will get a sticker. Police can have the car towed after that. And if no one claims the car, it will be turned into scrap metal.
