Nearly four dozen veterans came together in Farmingdale Saturday for a special reunion event.
Honor Flight Long Island hosted the reunion for 46 Long Island World War II and Korean War vets at the American Airpower Museum.
Back in September, the veterans were part of an Honor Flight. They flew to Washington, D.C. for a guided tour of military memorials.
On Saturday, each of the 46 veterans who took the trip received their own personalized tribute book detailing their Honor Flight. They also took pictures and exchanged stories of their time in the service.
Ed Dionian was the oldest World War II veteran honored on Saturday. The 98-year-old U.S. Army airplane engine mechanic said he was one of the lucky ones to make it home alive. He was happy to be part of the event and share it with his family.
"It allowed them the opportunity to talk to their families about their experiences, and the families are thrilled," says Bill Jones, with Honor Flight Long Island.
