SPCA: West Islip man arrested for drowning dog
The Suffolk SPCA says the owner of dog that was drowned last year has been arrested for animal cruelty.
According to authorities, 66-year-old John Shultz, of West Islip, chained a cement block to the dog's neck and threw it into the canal behind his Sacatogue Lane East home.
The SPCA said in September that the dog was a rottweiler mix and about 7 years old.
Officials said a necropsy showed that the dog was alive when it was thrown into the water.
