Southampton approves house height restrictions
Southampton Village on the East End approved regulations Thursday on how tall new homes can reach and where they can be built.
The law restricts the height of new homes to 35 feet and regulates the positioning of where they can be placed on lots, according to board members.
The new law is partially designed to meet regulations mandated by FEMA after Superstorm Sandy, according to Paul Travis, who sits on the planning commission.
The new law only affects homes in the designated FEMA zone. The planning board will conduct more studies, and says more height restrictions may be possible.
