A 38-year-old South Brunswick man was arrested for making comments against a Florida sheriff.
South Brunswick police say Richard Golden was on a chat website called 4chan when he allegedly said Sheriff Mike Chitwood should be shot in the head. Chitwood said Golden made the comments after the sheriff spoke out against recent antisemitic activity in Florida.
Police and prosecutors searched a Tangelwood Court home where police seized electronic devices and took Golden into custody. Golden is now wanted by Volusia County Sheriff’s Office in Florida for threatening Chitwood.
“The anonymous nature of the internet may make people feel they can say anything, but if you make threats or put people in fear, we will use all our resources to track you down,” said Chief Hayducka. “Yesterday showed that being 974 miles away from the Volusia Sheriff’s Office was no distance too great for the teamwork of law enforcement.”
Golden is being held at the Middlesex County Correction Center pending extradition to Florida.
