The Soundview Family Resource Center hosted a wellness carnival Saturday, offering Brooklyn families a chance to learn about the resources available for their families.

"It’s about helping [others,] but it's also using the tools that the community has to help us out,” said Maria Deaquis, program coordinator for the resource center. “So it's a two-way street."

Visitors also enjoyed live music, face painting, games and raffles.

The event was made possible by Rising Ground, a leading nonprofit human services organization that provides families in the greater New York City area with the resources and skills needed to help them rise above adversity and positively direct their lives.

Organizers say people were also able to receive assistance with signing children up for summer camps, as well as health or other programs for undocumented people.
