The Smithtown highway superintendent pleaded not guilty Wednesday morning to four felony charges and one misdemeanor charge.

Glenn Jorgensen, 63, was ordered by Suffolk District Attorney Tom Spota to appear in court. Jorgensen is accused of tampering with public records, offering a false instrument for filing, falsifying business records and grand larceny.

News 12 Long Island has learned the charges stem from paving work within the Town of Smithtown between November and December of last year. Smithtown Supervisor Pat Vecchio had no comment on the charges.

Jorgensen has been running the town's highway department since 2010, and is in charge of the department that conducts snow removal and maintenance of roads in the area. Spota says the department that Jorgensen oversees operates on a $30 million budget and employs more than 140 people.

Jorgensen previously faced other legal trouble within the town. His former personal secretary has accused him of sexual harassment.

He is due back in court May 19.
