Small businesses on Coney Island say stay-at-home orders impacting start of season

This time of year, Coney Island businesses begin to open for the start of the season, but the boardwalk looks quite different this year due to stay-at-home regulations.
This year is the 100th anniversary of the Wonder Wheel and the 10th anniversary of Luna Park.

This past Sunday would have marked the start of the season.

Lola Star, owner of Lola Star Gift Shop, is staying positive and providing her customers to shop on the store's website.

"I am developing my online store. That is a way that you can support small businesses and you can support my business," Star said.

Next door at Ruby's Bar & Grill, owner Michael Sarrel says the area's various small businesses have a tough road ahead, if there will be a start to the season at all.

"I don't know if the year 2020 for Coney Island, let alone for other major businesses, is going to be a year that we make money," said Sarrel.
