The state is shutting down all amusement rides similar to the one a 10-year-old girl was fatally thrown from over the weekend.
The ride is known as Xtreme, Sizzler or Super Sizzler. It’s manufactured by Wisdom Rides of America.
The New Jersey permit list for 2019 says there are eight Sizzler-related rides owned in the state.
The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs ordered the shutdown after 10-year-old Hailey McMullen was thrown from the spinning ride during the Deerfield Township Harvest Festival on Saturday.
New Jersey State Police say the girl suffered serious injuries. She was airlifted to Cooper University Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Hailey was a fifth grader at the Deerfield Township Elementary School. Grief counselors were available to students and teachers this week.
Her family's attorney issued a statement saying, “The parents of Hailey McMullen would like to thank you for the love, support and prayers given to them during this difficult time in their lives. Although the family greatly appreciates these thoughts and prayers, they ask that you honor their wishes for privacy during their grieving process."
The ride was operated by Skelly's Amusements based in Williamstown. Police say it was recently inspected.
The shutdown will remain in effect until a cause is determined.
