Shoppers across Long Island headed to mom and pop shops for Small Business Saturday in a celebration of support for local businesses.
News 12 Long Island was on Main Street in Huntington where shoppers were looking for exciting deals.
Little Switzerland Dolls was offering 20 percent off all purchases of their in-store toys. Karine Bejot urged customers to come inside and take advantage of the staff's expertise.
"We have hands-on people to explain to you what it is that you're looking at, what it does and why it is a benefit for the child," she said.
Across the street at the Crushed Olive, a specialty olive oil and vinegar shop, the staff urged people to support local businesses during the holiday season.
"Bring the community together, support our local vendors and support the town and keep us moving in a positive direction," said Denise Kalousdian.
There are more than 500,000 small businesses in New York employing more than 3 million people.
