Lacrosse players from all over Long Island put the finishing touches on a 24-hour marathon of games in Massapequa.
The fifth annual “Shootout for Soldiers” event raised money to benefit troops and veterans.
Lacrosse players from 6 years old to 60 went head to head at the Field of Dreams in Massapequa during the marathon event.
Last year, all of the teams raised $150,000.
They started playing at 9 a.m. on Thursday and kept going until 9 a.m. Friday. Some players were on the field for several one-hour games. Others, like Robert Piscatelli, played for nearly 24-hours straight.
“It's the mind set of what these guys and women do overseas," said Piscatelli.
Harry Jacobs, an event organizer, said it’s a labor of love.
"I have a son who's active military. He's an army officer. He's done three tours in Afghanistan,” said Jacobs. “When you see 1 percent of our country serves, it really means something to be able to give back what they do for all of us."
This year, they raised more than $178,000 for veterans and active duty personnel.
