A Monmouth County high school is remembering students lost to gun violence by using shoes.
The "Shoes for Souls Lost" event was organized by Keyport High School science teacher Lisa Wallin and her students.
Organizers say 90 pairs of shoes were laid out to represent the 90 lives lost in school shootings in the last 10 years.
Wallin says the idea for the event came from her and her students talking about the 31 lives lost in school shootings in 2018.
"We started looking back, and we started talking and we realized this is not being acknowledged as sad anymore,"Wallin says. "So we wanted to showcase an event where we are not being desensitized to other people's tragedies. We are showcasing the importance of these students that lost their lives and their lives were cut too short."
In front of each shoe, a photo of a victim was placed alongside a biography of them.
The "Shoes for Souls Lost" event will be held until about dismissal time at Keyport High School.
