After more than 800 Nassau County residents filed complaints against their water company for skyrocketing utility bills, Sen. Charles Schumer is demanding a federal investigation into New York American Water.
Both the state and Nassau County have already launched multiple investigations into the utility.
Now Schumer says he wants the company to open its books to the federal Government Accountability Office.
"We're here to tell them you are not going to get another federal nickel until you straighten out the mess you created," the senator says.
In a statement, the water utility said it worked "day and night" to reach an agreement with state officials to give relief to ratepayers.
