Sen. Ruben Diaz pushes for more fencing at Starlight Park after drownings
State Sen. Ruben Diaz and other local officials gathered Monday at Starlight Park to show support for the families of two teens who drowned there.
Wellington Gabin and Erickson Villa, both 13, were pulled from the Bronx River at Starlight Park Friday after they were reported missing. Family and friends returned to the park to throw dozens of flowers into the water where the teens died.
Diaz and other officials are now calling for more fencing at the park. Diaz said he has reached out to the parks commissioner about the fencing.
The funeral for the cousins is set for Friday afternoon.
