SeeThroughNY report: LI has highest paid public school administrator
A new list shows the paychecks of public school administrators across the state, and the highest paid official is located on Long Island.
According to data compiled by SeeThroughNY, Joseph Ogeka earned $376,340 for the 2013-2014 school year.
However, Ogeka wasn't working this past school year. He retired, and a clause in his contract had him paid for an extra 12 months, plus 30 years of unpaid vacation and sick time.
Right behind him on the list is the deputy superintendent of Syosset Central Schools, Jeffrey Streitman, who earned $374,150.
Next on the list is the superintendent of Jericho Schools, Henry Grishman, who took home $372,362.
The superintendents of Hewlett-Woodmere and Elwood round out the top five highest paid school employees statewide.
The superintendent of the Riverhead School District told News 12 that Ogeka's salary for last year was a one-time thing. He normally earned about $176,000 a year, but when he retired, he cashed out about 30 years' worth of sick and vacation time.
