A Long Islander went from helping victims of Superstorm Sandy to giving humanitarian aid to those displaced by Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria.
Sean Mallone, of Lindenhurst, founded Crisis Response International, a group that mobilizes and deploys crisis responders across the globe to those in need of help.
Currently, the group is helping the refugees displaced due to the increasing threat from Islamic State militants.
"It got dangerous for a moment. It looked like ISIS could come into Erbil," Malone told News 12. "Many of the relief organizations pulled out. We decided to stay."
Malone says his team is also aiding Kurdish fighters who are on the front lines by providing medical aid and giving out supplies.
Malone says the group is looking for medical personnel who can travel to Iraq in an effort to help the Kurdish forces who are trying to hold back ISIS.
"Crisis Response International is firmly committed to the Kurdish people and helping the refugees over there," said Malone.
