Officials are calling for a federal investigation of TJ Maxx and other stores selling potentially dangerous recalled products.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission says that TJ Maxx and its affiliated stores, Marshalls and Home Goods, sold dangerous recalled items to consumers.
The CPSC highlighted 19 recalled items ranging from baby cribs, electronics, clothing and housewares that were sold in the company stores.
Sen. Schumer says while the retailer may have removed all the products from store shelves, some might still be in wrapped gifts this holiday season.
He also says wants the Consumer Product Safety Commission to investigate and for consumers to be refunded
“When a big store like TJ Maxx is selling products that could be dangerous, certainly something is wrong with them there has to be answers and there's got to be consequences,” says Sen. Schumer.
TJ Maxx told News 12 in a statement, "We have policies and procedures in place to prevent the sale of recalled products, and deeply regret that in some instances, recalled products were not properly removed from our sales floors..."
The CPSC did not say if it is investigating TJ Maxx but said in a statement, "CPSC takes this very seriously and encourages firms to develop internal controls to prevent the sale of recalled goods."
