The Sachem Central School District is mourning the loss of a beloved teacher and volleyball coach.
Matthew "Dezy" DiStefano, 42, died Monday following a battle with stage 4 kidney cancer.
During his fight, DiStefano established the Dezy Strong Foundation to give cancer patients access to experiences that directly affect a positive well-being.
Faculty, staff and students will gather on the football field at Sachem North High School Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. for a remembrance celebration.
