Russell Crowe talks filming 'Noah' in Oyster Bay at red carpet premiere
It was a star-studded night on the red carpet for the premiere of 'Noah,' a biblical film that is creating a lot of buzz and controversy and has a Long Island connection.
Parts of 'Noah,' which stars Russell Crowe and Emma Watson, were filmed on Long Island. The ark was actually built at the Planting Fields Arboretum in Oyster Bay.
"I wasn't expecting it to be that big...the exterior version was out on Long Island and the interior version was in Williamsburg," says Crowe. "Standing in that structure and looking up at 3 stories; you can do this sort of stuff with green screen but being an old ham that I am, being on a large stage like that was great and it brought something to everybody in the film."
Film producers say the ark took five months to build and cost $13 million. In addition to the ark, some of the film's pre-flood scenes and big battles were also done at the arboretum.
"We searched high and low for an area that had a large enough field that we could build our ark," says film producer and Lido Beach resident Scott Franklin.
The entire film cost $160 million to make. The rest of the exterior shots were filmed in Iceland. It also stars Jennifer Connolly and Anthony Hopkins.
