It was a tough Election Day for Democrats, but the one bright spot was Kathleen Rice's hard fought win for Congress.
Rice won in Nassau's 4th Congressional District, Carolyn McCarthy's longtime seat, by a vote of 53 percent to Republican Bruce Blakeman's 47 percent.
In another high profile race, Republican Tom Croci won the race for state Senate in Suffolk's 3rd District with a commanding 58 percent of vote to Democrat Adrienne Esposito's 42 percent.
Republican state Sen. Jack Martins won his re-election with 56% of the vote to Democrat Adam Haber's 44 percent.
And Democrat Eric Schneiderman won re-election for state Attorney General, defeating Republican challenger John Cahill with 56 percent of the vote to Cahill's 42 percent.
