Residents protested eviction of medical center
Community members protested the eviction of the Jessica Guzman Medical Center Thursday.
Supporters of the center say the eviction is a greed-driven move by the landlord. According to center president Pedro Espada Jr., the center?s lease expired last January. Espada says because the landlord and center couldn?t come to a compromise for higher rents, they are being thrown out.
Since 2001, the Jessica Guzman center has provided Hispanic Bronx children, families and seniors with health care, social services and outreach programs.
The center will remain open to the public until September 30.
