A plan to build a hotel on the grounds of the Milleridge Inn in Jericho is being met with opposition from some community members.
The Kimco Realty proposal includes a three-story, 93-room Marriott Residence Inn in the rear parking lot of the Milleridge Inn, near Merry Lane.
"It is a mistake to build a hotel here in a good neighborhood," says Young Cheung, who has lived on Merry Lane for over a decade. "We don't need a hotel around here."
Residents say they're worried the hotel will result in more traffic and vehicles parked on their street, as well as bring down their property value. They cited safety concerns for pedestrians who use the nearby library and park, and say there are already multiple hotels in the area.

Kimco owns the Milleridge Inn, its land and the Jericho Commons shopping center next door. It says the proposed $22 million hotel will be a positive addition to the community.
Kimco, which is seeking tax breaks from Nassau County, also says the hotel will help keep the doors of the Milleridge Inn open.
At a packed meeting Tuesday night, the Oyster Bay Town Board put off a vote on whether to allow the hotel's construction. Town officials decided to go ahead with a 45-day public comment period for the proposal.
