Commuters who rely on the Clark Street station are worried about reports of a potential closure for construction.
The Brooklyn Daily Eagle reports that the MTA may consider closing the Clark Street station for a year to repair its three elevators.
MTA officials have neither denied or confirmed the report.
In October, News 12 reported how 17 people were stuck in the elevators at the station after they broke down. The community board chair at the time told News 12 the elevators are necessary for riders to get from the street to the platform. The MTA had said the elevators were due to be replaced within a few months.
However, many feel closing the station is the wrong approach.
The Brooklyn Heights Association is handing out flyers, expressing outrage that the MTA has not discussed its plans with the community.
The MTA released a statement saying, "No final decision has been made on access to the station while we replace the elevators there. Our engineers are actively and urgently working on a plan that causes as little impact on our customers and neighbors as possible, and we will update the community when we have developments."
Officials at the Brooklyn Heights Association are urging commuters to contact the MTA and elected officials to try and get answers.
