The Long Island Press is reporting that New York Islanders owner Charles Wang is pulling the plug on the Lighthouse Project.The paper says lack of funding may have killed the multibillion-dollar proposal.The development would consist of condos, offices, shops, restaurants and a hotel on 150 acres of county land surrounding Nassau Coliseum. Wang had set an Oct. 3 deadline for the Town of Hempstead to approve the plan and said he would consider moving the team if the plan was not approved by that date. The town said it could not approve the plan by the deadline because it had concerns about traffic, air and water quality.A recent poll by News 12 Long Island, Newsday and the Siena Research Institute revealed that slightly more than half of Long Islanders were in favor of the Lighthouse Project.Wang has not yet returned calls from News 12 Long Island about the report.
