A 12-foot statue of a giraffe was found chained to a tree at the entrance to the East Hampton Village Nature Trail last week.

The find was made by East Hampton Village workers at the Hunting Lane entrance to the nature trail.

"We were doing our morning patrol, we came around the corner and there was the giraffe standing in the nature trail. That's something you don't see every day," says Mike Bouker.

Village officials say no one has claimed the giraffe. They believe the statue may be linked to some other giraffes that were spotted at various locations throughout East Hampton. Officials have speculated that the incident is related to a senior class prank.

The lifelike replica is being held at the East Hampton Village Highway Department impound lot. Police say they have not received any reports of stolen replica African mammals.
