BAY SHORE - Rep. Peter King spent Friday visiting Suffolk County's largest mosque.

King observed afternoon prayers at the Muslim Center of Long Island in Bay Shore. King was greeted warmly despite controversial past statements concerning Muslims.

The Republican congressman has been criticized in the past for broad statements linking Muslims to terrorism.

“The fact that there are people within a community that are evil and bad does not reflect on the entire community,” said King. “But there is an obligation in that community to cooperate with law enforcement.”
