A 16-year-old girl is using her home 3D printer to create masks to donate to hospitals.
Alliyah Steele, a junior at Putnam Valley High School, says she is using the latest design by Copper3D, a company that is allowing people to download and print the masks.

“They have it so that it's adjustable, so you use either a hair dryer or you put it in hot water and you can bend it so that it fits the face properly...,” she says.

Steele is leading the effort, in partnership with her school district, student organizations and Mercy STEAM Education.

"I do have people in my family who do work in the hospital system who have been talking to me about what's going on and that they need help with it, and I am the president of my school's 'Make a Difference' club, co-president, so we haven't been able to do as much as we wanted this year and I think this would be a great project for us to be able to make an impact on something that's been so sudden," she says.

Steele says she is first donating masks to Massachusetts General Hospital, and once more are made, she will give them to Westchester and Putnam hospitals, where requests for public manufacturing have been made.
