An immigrant who prosecutors say has been in the U.S. illegally and for only several weeks is accused of fatally stabbing a man in Hempstead.
Jose Ulisiz Ortiz-Trochez, 18, is now facing murder charges after the victim was found dead five days ago in a Hempstead park.
A family member says the victim was 35-year-old Juan Gabriel Chic Sian, whose cousin says he worked in restaurants at night and never bothered anyone.
Investigators say Ortiz-Trochez entered the U.S. illegally about a month and a half ago and spent the last two weeks living with a friend in Hempstead. On Friday night, they say he got into a drunken fight with Sian at Brierley Park over a bottle of liquor. That's when police say the suspect went to get a knife, came back and stabbed Sian in the stomach.
Nassau police say they were back at the park Tuesday night continuing their investigation when the suspect returned to the scene of the crime. Police say people at the scene identified Ortiz-Trochez as the killer.
Ortiz-Trochez is being held without bail on second-degree murder charges. He's due back in court Friday.
