A Perth Amboy man is accused of killing a pregnant woman and her unborn baby.
The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office says that 25-year-old Benny Pichardo Santos Arias stabbed 20-year-old Esmeralda Cedeno multiple times, killing her and the baby. Cedeno was six months pregnant.
The prosecutor’s office says that police were called to the intersection of Sayre and Steadman avenues Thursday a little after 9 p.m. Authorities say that officers found Cedeno with multiple stab wounds. She was taken to Raritan Bay Medical Center for treatment, but was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police located and arrested Santos Arias Friday. He faces multiple charges including murder and hindering his own apprehension. He is being held at the Middlesex County Correction Center pending a detention hearing.
A motive for the stabbing was not immediately made clear.
