A power problems in Valley Stream caused widespread delays and cancellations on the Long Island Rail Road this Thanksgiving.
PSEG Long Island says a wire fell on a train track between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. Thursday. Passengers were stuck on platforms in the bitter cold while crews worked to fix the issue.
Adding insult to injury was a drawbridge on the Long Beach branch that had technical problems and at one point needed to be shut down. Riders were forced to take buses between the Long Beach station and Island Park.
The West Hempstead branch had to shut down entirely in both directions. It has since resumed regular service.
The Babylon line operated at a crawl, with delays up to two hours.
