There were some delays and disruptions both in the air and on the road as Sunday marked another busy travel day to close out the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
There were many delays at LaGuardia and many other airports across the nation as expected on one of the busiest holiday travel days.
Flyers at LaGuardia said they tried their best to pack their patience.
"Nothing has gone well so far," said Sabrina Lyons. Like many travelers at LaGuardia and airports across the nation, she was exhausted, frustrated and behind schedule. Her flight from Orlando was nearly 2 hours late.
Nationwide, there were 5,670 delays and 167 cancellations.
LaGuardia was one of the hardest-hit U.S. airports with 517 delays and 7 cancellations.
"Holiday travel. It's to be expected," Lyons added.
On the roads, AAA estimated nearly 54 million people would be driving over the holiday weekend in the U.S.
Delays were expected, so Sid Becker, of Oakdale, and his wife left early from upstate.
"We were on the Cross Bronx [Expressway], which of course, is the largest parking lot in the world, but other than that, the traffic wasn't bad," he said.
The rain on Sunday afternoon and evening didn't add to the ease of getting around for some drivers, including Westhampton resident Chris Colucci, who drove an RV from Pennsylvania to Long Island.
"Traffic on the George Washington [Bridge] was horrible. It was bad," Colucci said. "I left at 8 o'clock and I'm just getting to the Island at 3 p.m.-3:30 p.m. It's been a rough one."
Back at LaGuardia, weary travelers who were returning to New York, like Sareen Ahmar, expected some headaches this holiday weekend. She chose to travel on the peak days of Wednesday and Sunday, so now she tried to remain positive, even though her flight was delayed a couple of hours as well.
"It's been really crazy, yeah, definitely packed airports, even now walking out, it was lined with people just sitting on the floor waiting for flight, so I think, yeah, definitely crazy time," she said.
Monday is also expected to be a busy travel day as well at the nations' airports for those who tried to avoid the crush on Sunday.
