Police: Weapons cache, narcotics found in Baychester home
A Bronx man is facing a slew of charges after police responding to reports of an explosive device in his Baychester home say they found a weapons cache.
Police say the arsenal seized from Richard Laugel's 2205 Palmer Ave. home includes an AR-15 rifle, several silencers and other firearms, as well as cash and narcotics.
The 38-year-old Laugel was arrested Wednesday not far from his home, where authorities say they orginally believed he was operating a drug den.
Police say Laugel's arrest stems from a federal investigation in which authorities seized 49 Xanax pills at John F. Kennedy International Airport's mail facility in November 2017. Authorities say that probe resulted in a search warrant of Laugel's home. Authorities believe the alleged shipment was en route to his residence.
Laugel faces federal charges that include possession with intent to distribute narcotics and several counts of possessing a defaced firearm. He was set to appear before a judge Thursday in Manhattan federal court.
Laugel is awaiting trial in connection with a 2016 car bombing.
