Bridgeport police are warning residents to beware of a spike in porch thefts around this time of the year.
Amanda Perez, of Bridgeport, says she's seen porch pirates walk up to her front door in broad daylight and steal her packages in full view of security cameras.
Perez shared with News 12 video she captured of a man taking hundreds of dollars' worth of merchandise that had just been delivered from her porch on Wednesday morning.
"It's very unfortunate that not even with cameras, people still have the need to just walk up to our porch," Perez says.
Perez says she was also targeted recently by a female porch pirate.
"Two times we've had packages stolen off our porch, and enough is enough," Perez says. "I want these people to know that anything that's taken on my camera is being reported to the police department and News 12."
Police say during graduation season, when many people are buying gifts online, the public needs to be especially careful. They say if you catch a porch pirate on camera, be sure to file a police report and include those images.
Authorities say high-security door boxes are growing in popularity. With door boxes, deliveries can be placed in a one-way slot, and the box must then be unlocked by the owner to retrieve the parcel.
