Police: Teen arrested for making terroristic threat against Brentwood school
Police say they have arrested a teen who made a terroristic threat against the Brentwood Freshman Center via social media.
Officials from the Brentwood Union Free School District and several parents reported to police that a threat had been made online Sunday. The threat targeted the district’s freshman center, located at 33 Leahy Ave.
Officers arrested the 16-year-old Brentwood boy Sunday night and charged him with making a terroristic threat, which is a felony.
News 12 obtained photos that appear to show the shocking threat on Snapchat, including one that says, "PSA I'll be shooting up the Brentwood Freshman Center at 9:00 Killing students and teachers. Be ready."
Another photo shows what appears to be a teen holding a weapon. The last photo appears to show a gun and ammunition, with the phrase "murder on my mind."
Brentwood Schools Superintendent Richard Loeschner said in a statement, "The safety and well-being of our students, staff and community is the Brentwood School District's foremost priority. As always, we encourage parents to continue to speak with their children about the district's code of conduct and the importance of appropriate behavior while using social media."
The teen is scheduled to be arraigned in Family Court in Central Islip on Monday.
