Police seek help in finding several suspects connected to fatal shooting
Police are asking for the public's help in finding several suspects wanted for crimes in the borough.
They are searching for 25-year-old Elijah Smith, who was last seen fleeing the scene of a fatal shooting in a gray four-door Sedan with a Connecticut license plate.
The incident happened on Aug. 7 when 34-year-old Akil Duro was shot in the arm and torso with stray bullets after 8 p.m. inside of his family's own apartment. The victim was taken to Jacobi Hospital in critical condition where he died two days later.
Just hours after Duro's death, his father, Okera Ras was found dead in the same apartment after suffering a heart attack. Loved ones say the father and son were very close and believe Ras died of a broken heart.
Investigators believe Smith may have information related to the shooting. He is listed as 6 feet 1 inch, weighs 290 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes. Police are offering a $2,500 reward for any information that leads to an arrest or indictment.
Police are also looking for a suspect that stole a woman's iPhone last Monday. They say the man snuck up on the victim who was entering her home in Fordham Heights, stole the phone and then fled north on the Grand Concourse on a black bicycle.
That suspect is being described as about 30 years old, 5 feet 5 inches and 160 pounds.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
