Police: Robert Noon III drove wrong way on Sunrise Highway service road in stolen car
Police say a man was arrested after leading police on a pursuit and driving in the wrong direction on the Sunrise Highway service road.
Authorities say they spotted a truck that had been reported stolen on Montauk Highway. When officers attempted to pull the Jeep Grand Cherokee over, they say the driver hit the gas.
Authorities say 39-year-old Robert Noon III approached Sunrise Highway near Hospital Road and got on the highway heading west in the eastbound lanes at around 1 a.m.
Police chased Noon for one exit, but then called off the pursuit due to safety concerns.
About an hour later, a car crash was reported in front of a home in Bohemia. A local homeowner says he saw someone run off after the crash. Police believe it was Noon leaving the scene.
Noon was eventually arrested at a home on 13th Street in Bohemia that he had frequented when he was in trouble with the law, the homeowners told News 12. They say Noon was banging on the door until they let him in. He then hid in a back room until police arrived on the scene.
As News 12 has reported, Noon was charged in a string of burglaries on the East End last year. He has also been incarcerated before for a home invasion.
