Police release video of person spraying racist graffiti on SUV
Police have released new video of the person they say spray-painted hateful graffiti on an SUV in Hauppauge.
The surveillance footage shows a person in a hooded sweatshirt outside the Woodbury Road home on Sunday. The message "LNK Dead [n-word]" was left on the side of the 2015 Jeep.
Chief Kevin Fallon says the incident is being investigated by the Suffolk County Police Department's Hate Crime Unit. He also said that the initials LNK are not known to be a gang tag.
Neighbors told News 12 Long Island that a biracial couple recently moved in across the street from where the Jeep was spray-painted. Police say they do not know if that couple was the direct target of the hateful message. News 12 is told that the same couple received a bias letter in their mailbox in May. Police say they are treating the two incidents as separate cases.
Police are urging anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
