Police say they are probing an apparent murder-suicide involving a young couple inside a home in Hampton Bays.
The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday on Ponquogue Avenue while the couple's infant was in the home.
Police say they found 26-year-old Jonathan Fava and his fiancee, 25-year-old Kelly Lynn Bray, dead after a friend called 911 to report a shooting.
Police added that a 27-year-old family friend, who was also in the home, was the person who called police.
"At this point in time, we don't know exactly what transpired. We know that this was not a home invasion. We know that there was no gang involvement," says Southampton Town Police Chief Steven Skrynecki. "We're very confident that there's no threat to the public. Whatever happened there was in the confines of that house."
The child and the family friend were not harmed in the incident. Police say the couple had no history of domestic violence, but Southampton police had records of two previous encounters with Fava. He was accused of pulling over cars with a loaded shotgun, then pointing the gun at police in 2016.
Authorities removed several weapons from the home, including long guns, a handgun and a bow and arrow.
The owner of the Hampton Veterinary Hospital in Speonk, where Kelly worked says, "The entire staff is shocked and saddened. Our hearts go out to their families and friends."
Fava's family owns JP Mulvey Plumbing and Heating. A woman who answered the phone says the family is asking for privacy.
Police are urging anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
