Police: Passenger dies after vehicle crashes into tree in Woodmere

A man is dead after the vehicle he was in slammed into a tree in Woodmere Tuesday afternoon.

A man is dead after the vehicle he was in slammed into a tree in Woodmere Tuesday afternoon.
Police say the 47-year-old driver lost control of the utility vehicle on Peninsula Boulevard just off of Lafayette Drive around 1 p.m.
The 47-year-old passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver was airlifted to the hospital with upper body trauma. He is in serious condition.
It is unclear what caused the driver to lose control. Police were not available to comment.
The name of the passenger has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
The Nassau County Homicide Squad is investigating.
